Grilled eggplants in tamarind sauce

  • Medium eggplant2 unit(s)
  • Tamarind paste1 tablespoon
  • soy sauce2 tablespoon
  • Warm water2 tablespoon
  • Honey1 teaspoon
  1. Soak the tamarind paste (easily found at an oriental food store) with lukewarm water for 10 minutes
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
  3. Cut each eggplant lengthwise and make diagonal cross cuts in the flesh without reaching the skin.
  4. On a barbecue grill first the flat side until golden (about 5 minutes) turn and brush the sauce on this side. Let the eggplants absorb some of the sauce and turn again for 2 minutes until dry. Flip again and brush on a little more of the sauce. Repeat the operation until the eggplant is soft and caramelized.
