French toast in Madeira wine

Corte o pão em fatias de cerca de 2,cm. 

Leve ao fogo o açúcar, a água, o pau de canela, a casca de limão e uma pitada de sal até ferver. 

Bring the sugar, water, cinnamon stick, lemon zest and a pinch of salt to a boil.

Retire do fogo e mergulhe as fatias de pão na calda quente. Escorra sobre uma peneira. 

Remove from heat and dip the slices of bread into the hot syrup. Drain over a sieve.

Aqueça uma camada de cerca de um dedo de óleo em jma frigideira. 

Heat a layer of about a finger of oil in a frying pan.

Misture os ovos com as gemas e passe os paes nessa mistura. Frite-os no óleo quente, virando de lado quando um lado já estiver dourado. 

Mix the eggs with the yolks and pass the breads in this mixture. Fry them in hot oil, turning them on their sides when one side is golden brown.

Em uma travessa funda espalhe os pães e polvilhe levemente com açúcar e canela. Se não couber tudo em uma camada, não tem problema empilhar os pães em varias camadas. 

In a deep dish spread the buns and sprinkle lightly with sugar and cinnamon. If you can't fit everything in one layer, it's okay to stack the loaves in several layers.

À parte, aqueça o vinho madeira com o mel. Quando ferver, derrame a mistura sobre os pães. Deixe a temperatura ambiente de um dia para o outro para que os pães absorvam bem o vinho. Só então deve-se servir as rabanadas. 

Separately, heat the Madeira wine with the honey. When boiling, pour the mixture over the buns. Leave at room temperature overnight so that the buns absorb the wine well. Only then should the french toast be served.

Obs: apesar de ser fervido, essa receita mantém parte do álcool do vinho, portanto não é recomendada para crianças. Pode-se usar madeira seco ou doce, de acordo com sua preferência. Costumo usar o seco uma vez que a receita ainda leva açúcar suficiente. 

Note: despite being boiled, this recipe retains part of the alcohol in the wine, so it is not recommended for children. You can use dry or sweet wood, according to your preference. I usually use dry as the recipe still calls for enough sugar.
