- Cook the hominy in water for about 40 minutes until soft. TIP: Put 1 tablespoon of margarine together when cooking, so you don't spill water on the stove. Once cooked, add the other ingredients, you can add coconut, cinnamon, cloves, peanuts, as you prefer. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally so it doesn't stick. TIP: I made the dulce de leche by cooking 1 can of condensed milk.
