Start by placing the candied and dried fruits, orange juice and zest, rum and brandy in a pan.
Bring to a low boil, keep stirring until it boils, then turn off the heat and let it cool.
✔️TIP: This step is important to eliminate alcohol from rum or brandy, soften the fruits and refine the flavors.
In a bowl, beat the butter with the sugar until it becomes a very smooth cream. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well, and add the vanilla essence if desired.
✔️ TIP: Use the mixer, so it will be easier and faster to get a creamy result.
Sift the flour, baking powder, cinnamon and cloves or nutmeg powder into the previous mixture and mix well.
Finally add the contents of the pan from the first step and mix very well in the cream.
